Gratia vobis et pax a Deo (Rom., I, 7)
Que la gracia y la paz, de parte de Dios nuestro Padre y de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo en unidad con Espíritu Santo sea con todos ustedes, queridos hermanos en este Año Nuevo que comienza.
Les deseo, ante todo, la gracia de Dios, que es una pequeña pero admirable participación de la divina Naturaleza, siendo este don sobrenatural mucho más precioso e incomparable que todos los bienes temporales, frágiles, vanos y engañosos de esta vida terrenal.
En este Año Nuevo, les deseo una vida de paz y tranquilidad, y libre de toda suerte de desventuras, que les permita prepararse para la vida eterna; pero ante todo pido al Señor que les conceda su santa gracia. ¡Gratia vobis a Deo!
Ahora hagamos una seria reflexión, en lo referente a este año nuevo que comienza:
Hay en la vida del cristiano cinco horas características: la hora del trabajo, la de dolor, la de la alegría, la de la oración y, por fin, la hora de la tentación.
Procuremos y examinemos hermanos míos cual debe ser nuestra conducta en estas cinco horas distintas durante todo este año, que está a punto de comenzar, y espero que saquemos el mejor provecho posible y no nos perdamos para la toda eternidad.
Ahora vamos a analizar de cómo podemos aprovechar de la mejor manera cada una de las cinco distintas horas:
La hora del Trabajo. Sabemos que todo mundo tiene que trabajar, ya que es un precepto obligatorio y absoluto, que Dios dio a los hombres en la persona de Adán: “Ganarás el pan con el sudor de tu frente”
Por lo mismo, tenemos que trabajar bien durante todo el año, y hemos de trabajar por amor a Dios, para conformar nuestra voluntad con la voluntad divina y que nuestro trabajo nos sirva, no solo para conseguir un lucro temporal, sino para la mayor gloria de Dios.
Y que cada día del año nos levantemos con el pensamiento de trabajar unidos a las intenciones del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, ya que, si lo hacemos así, seremos bienaventurados.
Procuremos en este año, trasportar nuestras fatigas, como trigo limpio y sazonado, a los graneros del cielo, y si lo hacemos así, nos habremos enriquecido para la eternidad.
En este año que comienza, hagamos una firme resolución de renovar todos los días y cada hora, a ser posible con más vigor, una acción gracias a Dios por todo lo recibido hasta ahora; tanto los bienes espirituales y temporales.
Y, sobre todo, hagamos una firme resolución de no olvidamos jamás de nuestros deberes de religión, de piedad, y del cuidado de nuestra alma, y no solamente estar pensando en este mundo y en los intereses materiales.
La Hora del dolor. El dolor es el compañero inseparable de la vida y del trabajo, y es, también, una consecuencia del pecado original.
Si nos toca experimentar algún dolor durante el año, eso no sería ninguna maravilla. Ya que, si queremos llegar al cielo, es preciso ir por el camino que Jesucristo anduvo. Es por eso que el Divino Maestro prometió a los que sufrirían con Él que con Él serían glorificados.
Procuremos llevar las cruces de este año, en unión con las que llevó Jesucristo Nuestro Señor en el camino del calvario, por lo mismo, lo que más nos debe de importar es mirar las tribulaciones a la luz de la fe, considerándolas, no como una desgracia, sino como una ocasión para demostrar a Dios la grandeza y la fidelidad de nuestro amor, soportándolas en una unión de los designios y de los méritos de Jesús.
Con la aceptación de nuestros dolores y cruces, y el ofrecimiento de ellos a Dios Nuestro Señor, procuremos transformarlos en bellísimas piedras preciosas, que nos deben de llevar a una eternidad feliz, en donde será más bella nuestra corona en el cielo.
La hora de la Alegría. En este valle de lágrimas, también hay algún lugar para la alegría. Ya que, si el hombre sabe usar bien de ella, puede ganar muchos méritos para el cielo.
Saboreemos en el Señor las alegrías que Él nos permita durante el año, y por qué no decir con S. Pablo Gozaos, pero gozaos siempre en el Señor.
Ya que muchos no consideran esta frase apostólica “en el Señor”, y sólo piensan en divertirse, y de tal manera lo hacen, y que con ello dan ocasión al demonio para precipitarles al abismo del pecado.
La hora de la oración. Si queremos trabajar y sufrir meritoriamente hemos de aprovecharnos de la gracia de Dios y acrecentarla en nosotros. Y el medio para conseguirlo es la oración.
Procuremos en este año, orar con más fervor que antes, y por lo mismo no debemos descuidar las oraciones de la mañana y de la noche, el rosario, y las otras oraciones del buen cristiano, y si lo logramos, habremos pasado un año feliz y meritorio. Y alegrémonos de ello, y demos gracias a Dios.
La hora de la tentación. Nos dice San Pedro, el diablo anda siempre alrededor como león rugiente buscando a quien devorar.
Consideremos, que la tentación no es ningún pecado, pero si lo es, si no se rechaza y se consiente.
Debemos por amor a Jesús, no buscar las tentaciones y evitar las ocasiones de pecado, y al contrario resistir a la tentación, y hacerlo con todas nuestras fuerzas.
Queda todavía otra hora, la de la muerte. Debemos prepararnos de la mejor manera para ella, para que sea para nosotros consoladora y meritoria, por tanto, debemos aprovechar y santificar todas las horas de nuestra vida.
Procuremos pasar las 8760 horas del año nuevo, como se ha indicado, para que cuando Dios lo disponga, y nos llegue la última hora, la de nuestra muerte, pronto nos encontremos en el paraíso.
He aquí mis votos y deseos, para todos ustedes hermanos míos, que, aunque son breves, pero abundan en sentimientos preciosos. Los cuales deposito en el altar de Jesús y de María, para que ellos los bendigan y les den valor.
Por último, espero, que este año sea para todos, una corona de felicidad. Y que el buen Dios, permita que este año, nos traiga sucesos muy felices y nos llene de paciencia, de salud, de santidad, de gozo, de armonía. Para que todo suceda como dice S. Pablo: “Gratia vobis et pax a Deo” Que la gracia y la paz de Dios sea con vosotros.

REFLECTIONS FOR NEW YEAR
Gratia vobis et pax a Deo (Rom., I, 7)
May the grace and peace of God Our Father and Our Lord Jesus-Christ in union with the Holy Spirit be with all of you, my dear brothers and sisters, in the year that begins.
Above all else, I wish you the grace of God, which is a small but admirable share of the divine nature. Grace is a supernatural gift, the value of which is beyond any worldly possessions, which, in contrast, are fragile, futile and tricky.
I wish that the year that begins is full of peace and tranquility, free of misfortunes, and fruitful in terms of spiritual life. May the grace of God be with you and help you be prepared for eternal life. GRATIA VOBIS A DEO!
Let us think deeply about what the new year implies.
The Christian life is mainly composed of five sorts of moments: the working moments, the sorrowful moments, the joyful moments, the praying moments and the temptation moments.
We should try and examine, my brethren, what our behavior should be in the different moments of our life throughout this new year. I hope that we will take as much advantage of this advice as possible not to lose our souls for eternity.
How can we make the most of these five moments? We should see:
Working moments. Everybody must work, we know that. It is a compulsory and absolute precept given to men by God in the person of Adam: “You shall earn the bread in the sweat of your face”.
Therefore, we must work during the whole year for the love of God, to comply with the divine will and so that our work may produce not only worldly wealth but also the greatest glory of God.
Every day of the year, we should wake up thinking to work in union with the intentions of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in order to reach Beatitude.
This year, our goal should be to think of our fatigues as clean and seasoned wheat that we must take to the heavenly barns. Thus making, we become rich for all eternity…
Let us make a firm resolution to renew every day and every hour, if possible, our thanksgiving to God for all the good we have received until now, both spiritually and temporally.
Moreover, we should make a firm resolution not to forget our religious and pious obligations, and not to think exclusively about our worldly interests.
The moments of sorrow. Sorrow is the inseparable companion of life and work, also a consequence of the original sin.
If we had to endure some sorrow during this year, we should not be amazed. If we are to reach heaven, it is essential to follow the way that Jesus followed first. The Divine Master promised that those who suffer will be glorified.
Let us try and bear the crosses of this year in union with the sufferings of Our Lord Jesus-Christ on his way to the Calvary. To this end, we should do our best to look at our struggles in the light of faith, that is, as blessings and not as disgraces. It is up to us to take this chance in order to show God’s glory and the fidelity of our hearts.
By accepting our sorrows and crosses, and by offering them up, we transform them into beautiful jewels that will earn for us a happy eternity where they will be our crown.
The moments of Joy. We live in a vale of tears, where, however, there is some room for happiness as well. If men use well of their happiness, they can earn many merits for heaven.
Let us savor the joys that the Lord may send to us during this year. Let us say with saint Paul: “Rejoice but rejoice always IN THE LORD”.
Many people omit the last part of that apostolic quote, “in the Lord”, and they only think of having fun, which is an opportunity for the devil to take their souls to an abyss of sin.
The moment of prayer. If we are willing to work and suffer, we must take advantage of grace and endeavor to obtain even more grace. Prayer is the means to achieve this objective.
Let us try to pray more fervently. Never forget the morning and night prayers, the Rosary and the prayers that every good Christian must know. If we do this, our year will be happy and full of merit. We can then rejoice and thank God.
The moment of temptation. Saint Peter tells us that the devil is always about, prowling like a lion roaring for its prey.
Temptation, however, implies no sin if rejected and not admitted.
For the love of Jesus, we must not seek to put ourselves in the occasions of sin; conversely, we should resist any temptation with all of our strength.
Lastly, the moment of death. We should get ready as best as we can. We should ask for a happy and holy death and fight for it by sanctifying every hour of our existence.
Let us try and use wisely the 8760 hours of the New Year as we have explained, in order to be prepared for God’s will regarding our death and to reach Him in Paradise.
These are my vows and wishes for all of you, my brethren. Although brief, they abound in the highest feelings. I deposit them in the altar of Jesus and Mary so that they bless you and encourage you.
One last thing: I hope that this year will be a crown of happiness for all of you, that the good God will let this year be full of happy events, that He will grant us patience, health, holiness, joy and harmony, and I quote Saint Peter: “Gratia vobis et pax a Deo”… May the grace and peace of the Lord be with you…
