Mensaje del Año 2015 de Mons. Martín Dávila Gándara a sus feligreses y lectores.
“Mientras tengamos tiempo, obremos el bien”
A todos los fieles católicos, a mis feligreses, a mis lectores, y a todos los hombres sensatos y de buena voluntad, les mando un saludo muy especial en este año nuevo.
En tiempos pasados, los hombres, ya de palabra o por escrito, y en nuestros días por medios electrónicos, se envían los mejores votos y deseos largos y felices años.
Sobre este punto, es importante que pensemos que el hombre tiene el poder de proponer y de dirigirse estos faustos deseos. Pero no depende de él, el poder cumplirlos. Porque eso, sólo le corresponde al Señor que es el principio y la fuente de todo bien.
Por tanto, sólo Dios puede cumplir los estériles votos de los hombres y transformar en feliz realidad sus variados deseos.
Mientras los hombres se felicitan recíprocamente, la Iglesia recita plegarias y nos da lecciones. Por eso, sus sacerdotes hacen oración para que cada año nuevo sea fecundo en frutos de salvación, y a la vez, pregonando la divina palabra hacen recordar a los fieles la doble enseñanza que ofrece el ocaso y el principio del año, con su respectivo buen empleo del tiempo y preparación para la eternidad.
Por lo mismo, primero hagamos una reflexión sobre:
SOBRE EL AÑO QUE ACABA DE TERMINAR
Por parte de Dios. Pensemos, en los beneficios y gracias recibidas por el Señor, durante todo el año que ya ha terminado:
-Como la conservación de la vida y la salud en medio de muchos peligros.
-Consideremos también, los cuidados amorosos con que nos cubrió todas nuestras necesidades: No faltándonos ni el vestido, ni el sustento.
-Con paternal cuidado ha velado por nuestra alma, apartando de nosotros las tentaciones en las cuales hubiéramos caído por nuestra debilidad,
-Y a la vez, nos ha sostenido con su gracia extraordinaria en los momentos difíciles.
-Recordemos, también, todos los medios de santificación que ha puesto en nuestras manos: Como sacramentos, lecturas, pláticas, retiros, meditación, exámenes de conciencia, etc.,
Meditando todo esto ¡Con cuánta razón podrá decirnos el Señor! ¿He podido hacer algo más por ti?
Por este motivo, no nos cansemos de agradecer, alabar y bendecir al Señor. Por todos los beneficios y gracias recibidas durante todo el año que ha pasado.
Por parte nuestra. En este año que ha pasado:
¿Hemos correspondido a los beneficios y gracias que hemos recibido?
¿Hemos sido fieles a los propósitos que nos hicimos a principio del año?
¿Cómo hemos cumplido nuestros deberes para con Dios, con el prójimo y para con nosotros mismos?
Si hemos sido infieles a las gracias recibidas departe del Señor, llenémonos de vergüenza y humillémonos en su presencia; y pidámosle perdón y enmendémonos de nuestras infidelidades y culpas.
SOBRE LA ENTRADA DEL AÑO NUEVO
Un año más que nos concede Dios de vida.
-Un nuevo beneficio, una nueva gracia, o mejor, una nueva serie de gracias que el Señor se dispone a concedernos.
-Otra vez Dios nos protegerá con su providencia.
-Otra vez nos dará los medios necesarios y sobreabundantes para salvarnos y santificarnos.
¿Qué exige esto de nosotros? ¿Qué deberemos ofrecerle y darle al Señor por tanto beneficio?
El año nuevo es un nuevo plazo de prórroga que nos da el Señor antes de venir a pedirnos cuenta de las gracias y talentos que nos ha dado.
El año nuevo es también un año más que tenemos para satisfacer por medio de la penitencia todos nuestros pecados y culpas pasadas e infidelidades presentes.
¿Qué no daría un condenado por año, por un día, por una hora de vida, para satisfacer por sus culpas y merecer el perdón?
Si Dios concediera un año de vida a una de las almas que están en el Purgatorio, ¿qué no haría por librarse de aquellas penas y arribar al cielo?
Y nosotros, ¿dejaremos pasar en vano el nuevo plazo de vida que Dios nos da?
SOBRE EL BUEN EMPLEO DEL TIEMPO Y PREPARACIÓN PARA LA ETERNIDAD.
La Santa Iglesia nos recuerda cada principio de año, que hay una ETERNIDAD; y que por lo tanto, todas las cosas del tiempo para nosotros son nada. Ya que el tiempo es el precio de la eternidad. Por lo mismo, nada más precioso que su empleo.
Por eso, es importante que reflexionemos sobre: ¡El tiempo perdido en el pasado! El cual es preciso rescatar; ya que el tiempo es breve como un cerrar y abrir de ojos. Por lo tanto, procuremos enérgicamente llenarlo de buenas, santas y virtuosas obras. Pensemos también, que el tiempo futuro, es incierto. Por lo mismo, temamos y obremos juiciosamente.
La Iglesia también nos recuerda. La figura del mundo que pasa. Así como el mundo físico, el mundo moral y las sociedades políticas que siempre se mudan.
Pensemos, pues, lo que realmente somos, forasteros y viajeros en esta vida, y por lo tanto debemos usar del mundo, como si no usásemos de él.
Reflexionemos, también seriamente, sobre las gracias recibidas en el santo Bautismo, sobre todo la gracia santificante, y las gracias actuales que Dios siempre nos manda, y procuremos cooperar con ellas, ya sean estas ordinarias o extraordinarias.
Procuremos, pues, ser fieles y cooperadores de las gracias recibidas. Porque el gran día de la eternidad se acerca, y ese será el día final de nuestra peregrinación en este mundo. Ese momento será el comienzo de una vida eternamente feliz o eternamente infeliz.
Por eso, los santos tenían siempre presente aquel momento o instante de cual dependía su eternidad, por la misma razón despreciaban el mundo perecedero y caduco.
Por último, espero en Dios que estas reflexiones sobre el fin y principio del año, junto con el buen empleo del tiempo, nos ayuden a estar lo mejor posible preparados para una eternidad feliz. Por lo mismo, recordemos con cariño las palabras de San Pablo que nos recomienda: “Mientras tengamos tiempo, obremos el bien (Gal., VI, 10).

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!
Message 2015 of Bishop Martin Davila Gandara to his parishioners and readers.
“Whilst we have time, let us use it well .”
To all the Catholic faithful, to my parishioners, to my readers, and to all persons sensible and of goodwill, I send my very special greetings in this New Year.
In times past, men were already sending the best of wishes and the desires of a long and happy life by means of speech or writing, and it is still done in our day by e-mail.
On this point, it is important to realize that the man has the power to propose and to direct such splendid good wishes. Yet, it is not dependent on him to actualize the wish, for this is only up to the Lord who is the principle and the source of all good.
Therefore, only God can fulfill the sterile wills of men and transform into successful reality their varied desires.
While men are congratulating each other, the Church recites prayers and gives us lessons. For this reason, her priests make prayer that each New Year may be rich in fruits of salvation, and at the same time, proclaiming the divine word which is made to remind the faithful of the dual teaching that the occasion of the beginning of a year offers, that is, a proper good use of the time of a New Year and a preparation for eternity.
For this reason, first let us have a reflection on:
ON THE YEAR THAT HAS JUST FINISHED
On God’s part. Just think upon the benefits and graces received from the Lord throughout the year that has just ended:
– the preservation of life and health in the midst of many dangers.
– with His loving care that embraced all our needs—not lacking anything of clothing, or sustenance.
– with paternal care He has enveloped our soul, moving away from us the temptations which we would have fallen by our weakness,
– and at the same time, we have been sustained with His extraordinary graces in difficult moments.
– Remember, also, all the means of sanctification which He has placed in our hands: Sacraments, readings, lectures, retreats, meditation, examinations of conscience, etc.
Meditating on all this: With what truth our Lord can say to us! What more could I have done for you that I did not do?
For this reason, let us give thanks, praise and bless the Lord for all the benefits and graces received throughout the past year.
On our part. During this past year:
Have we corresponded with the blessings and graces we received this past year?
Have we been faithful to the resolutions that we made at the beginning of the year?
How we have fulfilled our duties to God, with others and to ourselves?
If we have been unfaithful to the graces received from the Lord, our we filled with shame and humbled in His presence; do we ask Him forgiveness and a promise to amend our infidelities and faults?
ON THE ENTRY OF THE NEW YEAR
God has given one more year to our life.
– A new blessing, a new grace, or better, a new series of graces that the Lord has bestowed upon us.
– Once more God will protect us with His Divine Providence.
– Again, He will give us the necessary and superabundant means to save and sanctify us.
What does this demand of us? What are we to offer and give to the Lord for such blessings?
The New Year is a new extension of time that Our Lord gave us before He comes again to ask an account of the graces and talents He has given us.
The New Year is also a year that gives us an opportunity to make satisfaction, by means of penance, for all our sins, past faults and present unfaithfulness.
What would not a convict give for one year, for one day, for one hour of life, to correct his error and merit the forgiveness?
If God has granted a year of life to one of the souls who are in Purgatory, what it would those souls do to be rid of their punishment and go to Heaven?
And ourselves? Will allow to past in vain the new period of life that God gives us?
ON THE GOOD USE OF TIME AND PREPARATION FOR ETERNITY.
Holy Mother Church reminds us the beginning of every year, that there is an ETERNITY; and therefore, all the things in time are for us as nothing. That time is the price for eternity. At the same, nothing is more precious than how that time is spent.
Therefore, it is important to reflect on it: Time lost in the past! It is essential to redeem it; yes, time is short, like a blink of the eye. Therefore, let us energetically do everything to fill it with good, holy and virtuous works. Think too, that the future is uncertain. As such, we should fear to lose it and act judiciously.
The Church reminds us of this truth by the figure of a passing world. The physical world, the customs of the world and political societies are always changing.
Let us consider, therefore, what we really are: strangers and travelers in this life, and therefore we must use the world, as if we did not use it.
Let us also reflect seriously upon the graces received in holy Baptism, particularly the sanctifying grace and actual graces which God always bestows upon us, and let us do everything to cooperate with these graces, be they ordinary or extraordinary.
For this reason, the saints always held present that moment or instant on which depended their eternity, and for that same reason despised a short and perishable world and expired.
Finally, I hope, with God’s grace, that these reflections on the end and the beginning of the year, along with the good use of time, will help us to better prepare us for an eternity of bliss. Therefore, let us remember with affection on the words of St. Paul that we recommend: “While we have time, let us use it well (Gal., 6:10).
